Japan Observability regional lead Engineer within the Group Platform Services & Engineering division which provides the Nomura group common services to Development, Infrastructure and Production Services. This is a technical team lead position responsible for engineering, design, development and integration of the Observability platform. The successful candidate will have a vital role in shaping future Observability strategy and direction within the Nomura Group.
The candidate must have native Japanese and fluency in English.
A fantastic opportunity for somebody with 10+ years experience to work with state of the art technologies to deliver industry leading solutions in the Telemetry, Observability and Monitoring space (known as TOM internally). The successful candidate would join a recently formed team of enthusiastic forward thinking SREs & Engineers who are working to radically transform how the Nomura Group manages the operation of its estate. This will evolve in to full AI Ops Capability with automated anomaly detection, automated impact and root cause analysis and machine learning generated resolutions. This is a global team consisting of 20 team members bringing change across the organisation.
The candidate will be the regional lead of our Tokyo based TOM Engineering team and shall be responsible for engineering the various tools and technologies that make up the TOM suite and adapting them for use in Asia and Nomura Retail. The candidate will work closely with their peers in other regions as well as with the other development teams to facilitate the strategic objectives of the team.
The observability platform consists of tools from vendor, open source and in house.
These tools include Grafana UI, Loki, Mimir, Tempo, Sloth, RightITNow, EverBridge and Open Telemetry. Experience of the Observability principles and the Grafana toolset is a must. Our solutions are deployed on Linux backend thus intermediate knowledge of Linux is also must. |

Responsibilities: |
- Lead the team of Japanese Engineers responsible for introducing leading edge observability tools. Part of the global group wide Observability team.
- Engineer solutions for adoption of best practices in Observability and Monitoring by companies within the Nomura Group
- Propose, design, and implement additions to evolve observability platform
- Drive adoption of best practices in Observability across the organisation
- Contribute to Observability standards and procedures
- Working with the SRE team to optimize the operation model
- Mentor engineers on best practices, standards and procedures
- Reporting to Japan Observability Lead

Mandatory: |
- Team lead experience (7+ Years)
- Java, Python and Scripting Experience (5+ years)
- Agile experience with use of JIRAs and sprints
- Strong communication − presenting and documentation
- Experience of driving change in a large organisation
- Demonstrate understanding of large enterprise systems and the technologies on which they are built
- Strong analytical skills
- Solid understanding of Production Support processes
- In-depth understanding of Java and Python

Preffered: |
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Background in Observability Engineering covering Metrics, Logs and Traces
- Strong Experience with Observability tools such as Open Telemetry, Grafana UI, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, Grafana Agent, Prometheus
- Continuous Integration / Deployment via DevOps Tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, Ansible, Nexus etc.
- Appreciation of SLI/SLOs for measuring and reporting on service levels
- Awareness of notification frameworks for escalation automation
- Experience of DevOps tools i.e. Jenkins, Ansible Tower, GIT and build & deploy pipelines
- Collaboration Tools − Confluence / JIRA / Microsoft Teams & Office 365
- Knowledge of operating system fundamentals including monitoring of IO, Networks, CPU and Memory
