Function Overview:
The Global Markets Strategy team plays a pivotal role in shaping Nomura’s near and longer term strategy across Nomura’s markets businesses (Fixed Income and Equities) in Japan as well as globally. The team works closely with senior leadership on a range of management initiatives including business expansion strategy, market & competitor analysis, business planning and performance reviews, and client strategy. The team works directly with Senior Management to determine the right strategy and execution plan for reaching Nomura’s aspirations across businesses in a rapidly changing market environment.
The incumbent will work closely with senior management across the Global Markets and COOs/CAOs, as well as with key corporate teams such as Finance and Risk. The Japan Strategy team reports to Head of Global Markets Strategy as well as Japan GM senior management.
 
Responsibilities:
The role covers across Nomura’s Global Markets businesses in the region as well as involves collaborating across regions on broader global initiatives and involves providing active, ongoing support to Nomura’s Head of Global Markets and Japan GM leadership team. Key responsibilities include:
  • Provide analytical support and thought leadership expertise on Global Markets’ strategy initiatives, with a focus on strategic development, long term business growth, and overall positioning
  • Stakeholder Management including supporting client relationships, proactively managing conflicts, issues and risks, collaborate with stakeholders, and engaging on relevant levels
  • Identify, analyze and monitor issues that affect profitability, growth, and productivity
  • Conduct competitor/industry research and analysis leveraging both public and non-public sources
  • Research and analyze business profitability and macroeconomic indicators, analyze specific client segments, conduct acquisition screening, perform strategic due diligence
  • Prepare management presentations including business plans, business reviews, offsite presentations, town halls
  • Work closely with Global GM and Wholesale Strategy team on broader firm-wide initiatives

Requirements
Requirements:
  • Candidate should have 8+ years’ experience in a strategy role, ideally in peer bank or a consulting firm or a strategy/business planning unit of a financial institution
  • Strong analytical skills, including ability to develop financial models and perform data analysis
  • Strong PowerPoint and Excel proficiency
  • Problem solving and creative thinking skills a key
  • Strong communications skills (verbal and written) in English, Japan language knowhow preferable (not compulsory), and ability to interact confidently with senior business leadership on a range of topics
  • Interest in the wider Investment Banking and Capital Markets industry including key trends and market dynamics including Market Structure, Fintech, Regulations
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and initiatives
